The 21 of December is the darkest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Changing day! Winter solstice. From this day on the days are getting longer. This is of course not correct because every day has 24 hours. It is the day with the latest sunrise and the earliest sunset. More light from this day on.
But this year this very special day had something very special in store. It was the day the northern lights came back after more than one year. And how they come back – in full force! I thought I want to share this experience with you in a picture post. Have fun.

Waiting for the big explosion.

All pictures taken with my Canon 5D MarkIII and a Samyang 14mm.
Stay tuned. More to comes soon from up NORTH…
Beautiful!

Thank you so much for sharing. I have moved south and I miss seeing the Northern lights, so these beautiful photos brought back many memories of nights sitting outside watching the lights flicker and spread.

Wow, thanks for sharing! The only time I experienced some northern light was in March 1981, while on boat in northern Norway. Your pictures are incredible!
