The Scheepjes “LANDSCAPES” Tunisian Crochet Make-a-long: Part II

What a week… I see so, so, so many versions of the Landscape shawl in the offical SCHEEPJES Facebook groups, I almost get a little dizzy. So many differnt colorways, yarn choices and stories behind them. I see how they grow at different speeds and I am over the moon about all that.

That is why I decided to make a little round up this week and show you some version. And give two crafters the space here to tell their story behind their choices. Thank you Guillaume and Tania for sharing your version with us.

The cover picture is by Willeke Van de Pol who managed to finish her Landscape and did a very inspiring comparison to her initial colouring sheet.

There is much more inspiration to find in the official Facebook groups:

Official SCHEEPJES International Group – Facebook

Official SCHEEPJES Nederlandse Groep – Facebook

The pattern is still available for the reduced price of 4 Euro in English, Dutch and German.

Find your colorway and buy your yarn at the local yarn shop: Scheepjes Dealers . If you do not have the possibility to buy local, you can order your Scheepjes yarn at Wool Warehouse or Jimmy Beans Wool

Pleace welcome Guillaume and Tania and with a warm applause and enjoy the pictures of other crafters after their stories.

Have fun. More from Up North soon…

Guillaume:

Dear crafters.

Let me introduce myself a bit. I am Guillaume Schoonderbeek, à Dutch guy of 48 years, trained as a pharmacist. As of 2020 I picked up an old hobby of mine: crochet. I was having a sabbatical period to rethink my purposes in life, to search new balance. It seems I have a natural talent to craft. Last year I did my first fair isle knitting project. Which I enjoyed a lot. I had planned on designing a men’s shawl since there are not many appealing designs available – I think. And then a few weeks ago Martins Landscapes MAL caught my attention… a rich design that is unisex, having potential as a garment suitable for any person. Finally a shawl that I would wear. So there began this adventure of tunisian crochet – my first project in this technique ever. And I love it.

I found inspiration in a landscape that I see when I meditate to consult my inner mentor. I imagine a yellow ball of light which is a portal to another dimension where my inner mentor resides. When I go through this ball of light I enter a world of pink and purple skies, blue birds and vibrant nature (the green colours) My inner mentor is a silver being. I picked white to represent my mentor. The pure loving wisdom in myself. My Landscapes shawl is a picture of my inner place of peace, calm, contentment, love. A place to restore my compassion when I feel i need to do so.

Landscape MAL 2023 – Cosmic Dream
Inspiration can be found around the corner but sometimes you can find it far back in the past and even not on this planet. This is my inspirational story how I found the colors to make the Scheepjes “Landscape Mal” designed by Martin-Up-North.

When I was 8 years old I discovered that humanity landed on the moon a few years before I was born. Plans were to travel to Mars and colonize the red planet. Being a little girl, with a big fantasy, I dreamed that by the time I would be 40 years I would be the first woman to step on Mars.
The planning of that dream didn’t went well, a little bit adjustments in time and space were made when I got older. I bought astronomical books and a telescope and started to sit outside at night. Peeking through the looking glass into the universe, to the moon, stars and planets.
Adulthood came around and the telescope made place for adult stuff. Reality kicked in that my footsteps would never end outside our fantastic planet Earth..
Wen I first saw the Scheepjes “Landscape Mal” I saw a million possibilities but I had the feeling every idea wasn’t it. You know: “yes, but no feeling”.
When I was dusting off my old astronomic books, I was thinking: “What if I took the solar system as a source of inspiration?” Then I can wrap the Solar System around my shoulder and that way this little girl dream can come true in an unique way.
The colors:
We have 1 star “The Sun”, 8 planets + Pluto gives 10 colors, good old Earth we grant you 2 colors (blue and green). Two more colors to go for universe and the uncharted part of the universe.

  1. Wow what a great read, very interesting people. The shawls are exceptional. Love the rug with the lady in it. That is very cleaver. Hope I can do half as good.
