ETSY

A big, big, big “THANK YOU” to all the testers, translators and helping hands. Your support means a lot!

I do not know why but I got the feeling to take a step back and make a ,kind of oldschool mosaic crochet blanket in the inset technique again. After working in the Tunisian crochet technique and mosaic overlay technique for quite a while I wanted to go back to the not so popular inset technique again.

Advantage with this technique is, that you do not have to fasten off after every row and that means that you do not have to weave in ends or add a double border. The technique makes it also possible to work with different yarns because you do not need to cover the yarn beneath in the same way as you need to do in the overlay technique.

A fast project, like we did in the old days and a design that does not include a lot of double crochets besides each other.

And I wanted to use the yarn, I used to use “back in the days” again. The 100% cotton aran yarn of Scheepjes Cahlista.

I like that yarn a lot and in combination with the inset mosaic technique it makes fantastic, heavy blankets that still come with a drape.

The rich color range of the Scheepjes Cahlista of 109 shades gives you the opportunity to crochet endless color combinations and really adapt the design to your own needs.

Scheepjes Yarn can be bought at your local yarn shop: Scheepjes Dealers . If you do not have the possibility to buy local, you can order your Scheepjes yarn at Wool Warehouse or Jimmy Beans Wool

For those of us who are not familiar with the inset (or two row) technique. You can find a little tutorial and guidance here: A short introduction to Mosaic Crochet

It is totally possible to crochet the design in the overlay technique too but be aware of that the design will change in height and the total height will be affected too.

But enough talking, let´s crochet.

Pattern Notes

  • Read the whole pattern.
  • The pattern is crocheted in the insert mosaic crochet technique using one color at the time and changing color after 2 rows.
  • Ch1 at the beg of the row does not count as st. First sc is always worked in the same stitch as ch1.
  • To change color, work last sc of row in old color up to final 2 loops on hook, pull through new color to finish stitch.
  • Do not fasten off yarn if not specified. Simply pick up yarn used two rows below.
  • Pattern is worked from bottom up creating horizontal lines.
  • Pattern is adjustable to any size using multiples of 28 stitches and 60 rows. To achieve symmetry, you must add 1 stitch to your repeats plus 2 stitches (start and turn stitch) and 30 rows.

Chart notes:

  • Every chart row represents two rows worked in same color. The first row creates the pattern, the second row reinforces it.
  • The second row of every chart row is worked with 1sc in every sc or mosaicdc, ch2 over every ch-2 sp.
  • Each square is one stitch: empty square: “sc”, X in square: “mosaicdc”, circle in square: “ch2, skip 1 st”.
  • The second row of every chart row does not have mosaicdcs, that means that every X is also a sc in the second row.
  • Mosaicdc is always worked in same color row, 2 rows below.
