So I am really kind of nervous to put my first knitting pattern out there.

Needle size A: Circular needles 40cm in given size

Needle size B: Circular needles 40 cm or double point needles

Scheepjes Merino Soft (50% Superwash Merino Wool x 25% Microfibre x 25% Acrylic,

50grams = 105meters)

or

Scheepjes Metropolis (75% Extra Fine Merino Wool x 25% Nylon, 50grams = 105meters)

• Alternative A (small child size, circumference not stretched: 40 cm)

Needle size A: 3.50mm

Needle size B: 4.00mm

Yarn:

1 ball of Scheepjes Merino Soft 618/Wood (50 grams used)

1 ball of Scheepjes Merino Soft 641/Van Gogh (21 grams used)

• Alternative B (child size, small adult size, circumference not stretched: 42cm)

Needle size A: 4.00mm

Needle size B: 4.50mm

Yarn:

2 ball of Scheepjes Merino Soft 606/Da Vinci (53 grams used)

Pattern Notes

• Read the whole pattern before you start.
• The hat is worked bottom up.
• Read chart notes for decrease.
• The pattern is not adjustable in numbers of stitches.
• The whole pattern is worked in rounds.
• From chart row 30 to chart row 40 the pattern decreases with 8 stitches every round.
• The chart is a repetition of 24 stitches. The 24 stitches are repeated 4 times. The Picture shows only 2 repeats.

Chart Notes

• the chart is knitted in the fair isle technique with two yarn colors at the same time in every round.
• The decreases start in row 30

left leaning decrease: transfer one stitch to the right needle as if you knit, knit one stitch, lift the transferred stitch over the knitted stitch and from the needle. (decrease 1 stitch)

right leaning decrease: knit one stitch, transfer back to left needle as if you purl, lift next stitch over the transferred stitch and from the needle, Transfer knitted stitch to right needle again as if you knit. (decrease one stitch)

2 stitch decrease in round 40: transfer stitch to right needle as if you knit, knit one stitch, lift transferred stitch over knitted stitch and from the needle, transfer knitted stitch to left needle as if you purl, lift next stitch over knitted, newly transferred stitch and from the needle, transfer knitted stitch to right needle as if you knit. (decreased 2 stitches)

Pattern:

With needle size A and yarn A.

Cast on 96 stitches with the long tail cast on method. Close round and place stitch marker between first and last stitch.

Row 1 k1 to stitch marker. (96 stitches)

Row 2 to row 30 k1, p1 to stitch marker. (96 stitches)

Change to needles size B, with yarn A and yarn B:

Follow the chart from chart row 1 to row 40.

Use magic loop method or switch to double pints needle as soon as you have to stretch stitches to knit the rounds.

If you have a hard time with your decreases this might help:

At the end of chart row 40 you have 8 stitches left.

Knit one row with yarn B.

Use the kitchener stitch method to sew 8 stitches together.

Cut yarns.

Sew in ends.
