SCHEEPJES Dawn Chorus Pick & Mix CKAL Experience – the Goldcrest Scarf- Part IV

So the final week of the first part of the Scheepjes Dawn Chorus Pick & Mix CKAL has come.

I can only repeat myself, that I am very thankful for all the helping hands, helping minds and heartfelt support I have received before and during the CKAL.

Once again the reminder that this is not a competition. We all have our very own pace. I am happy to see different color settings as I appreciate to watch scarfs in the original color setting growing.

Some of you have already finished their scarf, others are at the beginning, others have not started yet. And that is just fine. The pattern can be found in the links below and it will stay there even after the CKAL is officially finished.

The big meaning with CKALs, CALs, MALs and KALs is in my opinion always that people come together, share their work and sometimes their very own history. This time the story of @AllesmeiYarn (on Instagrma) caught my eye who shared in the Scheepjes Facebook group that both versions of the Goldcrest scarf are made in her household by two different people. I wanted to know more and she told me that she made the knitted version and her son is actually doing the crochet version. I asked her how he got into craft. And that is her story:

“Well, it all started years ago with him asking about how a crochet hook worked. He was 10 and very handy at finger crochet, but he wanted to learn more. I showed him and he made a huge banner out of his string of yarn he had finger crocheted. Then we joined the Ubuntu Scheepjes CAL when he was 11 years old and he learned lots more. I made most parts but he made at least one part. As he crocheted I read Harry Potter out loud. We had a really good time working on it.

He then asked to make another blanket and made l’Histoire Naturelle, all by himself. In between he enjoyed making a whole lot of Amigurumi characters of games he plays. And when I showed him your project and asked if we would join together, he immediately said yes.

His first scarf. He’s vegan though, so Metropolis has been replaced with River and Stone washed. We haven’t been able to make a picture of his finished project as yet. It just might take some time still, since he’s also very busy playing his violin. But I send you a picture of my finished knitted version:

I really want to thank you for your amazing story and for sharing the amazing work you did together. I think this is a good example how crafting is something people connect with and connect with each other. And that is basically why I really like to be part of this community and I feel privileged that I had the possibility to host the first part of the SCHEEPJES Dawn Chorus Pick & Mix CKAL Experience. I am sure will have a good time with the upcoming parts.
