This time we are combining Tunisian crochet with the mosaic technique and Entrelac. This leads us to a pattern that is easy to adjust, fun to make and that works in a lot of colour combinations. We have no loose ends to weave in in the end and the squares we create are worked in diagonal, corner to corner, parts joined as you go. That means that we do not work in seperate parts but the pattern grows as we work on it.

The pattern includes written instructions, charts and video tutorials so that everyone, even beginners can learn the combination of the crochet techniques used.
You can find the pattern here:
My dearest and biggest THANK YOU to all helpers, translators and testers for all the help and mental support throughout the whole process!
The pattern is quite easy to memorize and once you get used with the technique you can work without looking at the instructions. That makes the “Jump In The Line” perfect to take with you wherever you may go.

I got a little too confident with knowing my own pattern and made a mistake, so I had to go back for a few squares to fix it. Even if that is not a very pleasant experience, it also shows the beauty of crochet in my opinion. I had to rip out a few wrong squares and I ended up to have 2 threads. Isn´t it quite amazing that two single strands of yarn can create a pattern by simple arrange them in a certain way? I think that is still the most fascinating thing ever.

The original blanket pattern is made in SCHEEPJES Stone Washed XL (70% Cotton x 30% Acrylic, 50 grams = 75 meters) with a 7mm hook which makes the blanket very solid and warm. The colors used are:
10 balls of Stone Washed XL / Black Onyx 843
8 balls of Stone Washed XL / Moon Stone 841
10 balls of Stone Washed XL / Morganite 874
8 balls of River Washed XL / Avon 974
A Tunisian envelope double border will hide the ends at the side and gives the blanket a very clean and steady finishing.
The border is made of:
3 balls of Stone Washed XL / Beryl 873
3 balls of Stone Washed XL / Carnelian 863
1 ball of Stone Washed XL / Black Onyx / 843

The pattern got the name “Jump In The Line” because this is what we basically do. The mosaic crochet technique is based on the idea to “jump” over a row with an adapted double crochet. And the entrelac method makes it possible that a square “jumps ” on top of the square in the previous row. All that works very well with the jumpy, bouncy fun rhythm of Harry Belafonte!
Cushion adaptation
Even more fun is the fact that the pattern can easily be adapted and adjusted in color and shape to your very own preferences. One of the endless possibilities is making a cushion sized multi color square in SCHEEPJES Stone Washed. In this version a 4,5mm hook is used.

One regular square has the size of 8 cm x 8 cm, which means that a 50 cm x 50 cm cushion uses 6 squares in width x 6 squares height (approximately, with a little blocking). Easy math!
The multicolored version uses just a few grams in every square which makes it perfect for using leftovers or work from your yarn stash.
Amount of yarn used in this version:
Black Onyx / 803 (55 gr)
Moon Stone / 801 (60 gr)
Aragonite / 841 (6 gr)
Orange Calcite / 842 (5 gr)
Citrine / 817 (12 gr)
Beryl / 833 (10 gr)
New Jade / 819 (18 gr)
Peridot / 827 (15 gr)
Amazonite / 813 (12 gr)
Turquoise / 824 (10 gr)
Royal Azurite / 845 (6 gr)
Sodalite / 847 (5 gr)
Border: Vanadinite / 840 (border both sides and ss round – 60 gr)

To make a cushion sized square with 6 x 6 squares you crochet the First Entrelac Row to Fifth Entrelac Row.
Then jump to the Nineth Entrelac Row and make the First Square, jump to the Fifth Square of the same row and finish the row as written in the pattern.
Then you crochet the Nineteenth Entrelac Row to the Twenty-second Entrelac Row.
For the very last square you can break the lines by crocheting the first square of the Twenty-second Entrelac Row one more time (like in the picture). Or keep the lines by adding the Twenty-third Entrelac Row.
After that you simply add the Double Tunisian Border.
